Does anyone have any suggestions for sources of news that actively attempt to be anti-sensational, for those who just want a general idea of what everyone is talking about?

I'll note that I personally try to avoid "the news", but enough leaks through my filters that I end up seeming somewhat well-informed about the discourse of the day.

I know other people who won't absorb the "current events" zeitgeist peripherally who would benefit from some simple sites that gives you a broad overview of the stuff people are talking about.
