@ianbetteridge Basically what I said there 😅 something along the lines of “So an obscenely rich comic who backed Boris Brexit and banning the burqa now has some
more opinions, I think I’ll keep my EV”

@ottocrat @ianbetteridge the arguments seemed muddled to me and I believe most are debunked.

There was a similar fuss about research claiming that Evs actually produce more lifetime co2 than ice vehicles a few years back. It turned out to be misleading as I recall.

Its disappointing to see the sowing
of doubt afresh and unproven / unlikely alternatives - it encourages us all to feel good about kicking the can down the road just a little bit further. Times up on waiting and seeing what turns up.

I had hoped we’d got past all this but humans, huh.

@simonboggis @ianbetteridge Exactly. It landed predictably well with a number of well-meaning family members suffering some guilt at continuing to drive ICE cars but eager for excuses to push back a switch to EV for yet another generation.

@ottocrat @simonboggis @ianbetteridge

I'm keeping my 14-year old ICE car because between bikes, public transport and Shank's Mare I only need it for certain errands; it works out to about 20 mi/wk. At which rate actuarially speaking I'd be dead before I drove a new EV enough to offset its initial carbon debt.

@ottocrat I even limit filling the fuel tank to half way because fuel containing ethanol is hygroscopic and goes bad extremely quickly in a rainy climate. It takes four months to use up a tank and it goes perceptibly bad in two. And moisture-laden fuel is bad for the fueling system.
