Pretty much all the birds at the backyard feeder know the starlings are assholes. 💁🏻♀️
@AnnemarieBridy My mum is a bird racist. Crows, sparrows, magpies, and anything deemed "not cute" get relentlessly chased from the feeder.
She has no problems with the mice and rats the mountain of spilled bird seeds attracts.
@kongk @AnnemarieBridy Crows have really grown on me over the years. I think they're extremely cute and they're pretty friendly once they get to know you.
@AnnemarieBridy @pieist Crows are the only ones who can match the massive seagulls around here. They both had chicks at the same time 20 meters apart. Got a bit noisy.
You should hear the Western Scrub Jays chewing out the cat. He didn't even notice, at first -- a yappy bird is just more background noise to him. Then one day I said to a jay that was on our porch railing giving him what-for, "you certainly are a talky one, aren't you?" Stanley (the cat)'s eyes got huge, he looked at me and back at the bird as if to say "wait, that's a person?" After that, when he came strolling by and the jay yelled at him, he'd turn and give it a little meow of acknowledgement.
@pieist @kongk I love crows, and they are definitely the alpha birds in our neighborhood.
