@AnnemarieBridy It makes perfect sense. Only owning the idea of the music you buy, and that music's propensity to vanish when you switch phone platforms or even sometimes when you get a software upgrade, isn't very reassuring to people who really identify with their music collection. I have physical copies of most of the music I have that I actually care about; and that proportion rises to 100% when we're talking about the stuff that's not popular and ubiquitious.
And then there are the older folks who still have their LP's. Indeed, I still buy them occasionally at places like Discogs, after hearing an artist I like on Hot Jazz Saturday Night
@pieist I go all the way back to 8-track tapes and have hundreds of my own CDs (stored alphabetically in bins) ripped to a home server, so I’m with you on wanting ownership and permanence. The point of the post was just that vinyl was last week’s cool ‘retro’ medium; now it’s CDs. Time marches on.
