Seems like it's a somewhat contested subject -- at best, a major improvement on present agricultural practices; important given that 8 billion people expect to go on eating while we fix things; at worst, a kind of "clean coal" switcheroo, with entrenched interests using it as a pretext to pretend we don't need to rewild and reduce our agricultural footprint.
Disclaimer: I am a fallible observer with no expertise; this is just how the conversation looks from here. It might be worth following the disputations between Allan Savory on the one hand and George Monbiot on the other, though at times they seem to generate a high ratio of heat to light.
