@corbin My old 27" iMac was the last (secretly) user-upgradeable one they made. The CPU was socketed so I swapped the i5 for an i7, put in RAM twice the size of the maximum documented spec, and replaced the HDD with dual SSDs in RAID0 mode. The next year they started soldering the CPU down and eliminated the extra internal SATA port. It's actually still a very performant machine. It's almost 12 years old. I'll be bummed when i have to replace it.
@pieist @corbin I kept mine until the graphics card died, with SSD and memory upgrades on the way that made it more powerful than most current models.
