@JamesGleick @NPR It is an interesting question, though. When is it acceptable to expose the private life of a public person? The article touches on one example -- "outing" a prominent figure known for their hostility and opposition to gay rights -- which might be deemed ethical, though there is no evidence that it applies here. Other than profound hypocrisy on this level, it's hard to see a case for it.
