🚨* Bus services across the #UK look set to be brought back under public control after #Manchester becomes the first to take its fleet out of private hands.

Opinion: The running of public transport & privatised utilities has been likened to a Wild West gold rush, which has left all these services massively underinvested & crippled with debt.

Monopolies should be run along private lines, but for public benefit, not shareholders.

@AnthonyFStevens It's particularly fun to look at the fares of other countries whose publicly owned transport companies own some or all of the UK's private ones, and realise that British passengers are subsidising German ones.

@pieist

Yup, & it gets worse. We've sold our energy grid & power generating companies to foreign countries who're using their vast profits from our huge bills, to subsidise their citizens' bills.

I long for the day when the people of the #UK are put first before shareholder profit.
