🚨Brexit fallout finally dawns on #London's Stock Market🚨
Brexit's become the prime suspect in the death of the Stock Market, with Apple at £2.3bn now valued more.
The LSE endured its quietest year since 2010, while investors have removed billions from #UK equity funds.
Just 23 companies came to the market in 2023. Companies that did list have performed badly.
Those Brexit benefits just keep on coming hey? 🤷🏾♂️
@AnthonyFStevens another entirely predictable outcome. I worked for a global financial services organisation when Brexit was announced in 2016. The group immediately instructed local countries to cease investing in Sterling denominated assets unless they were required to fulfil matching and other liabilities. The regulator of the companies I managed (EU based) then wrote to all regulated entities seeking full details of all Sterling assets held and demanded regular updates.
You see a lot of the "it's not going to happen" kind of wishful thinking, but seldom on that sort of scale. Usually it's just individuals who want to do something stupid, and through magical thinking believe that simply saying it's okay will make it true.
That a broad swathe of an entire first-world nation's white collar segment has now spent years acting that way without ever checking itself is mindblowing.
