Super excited about the anytype.io/en onboarding even though it started in the middle of the night for me.

This could be the perfect #Notion or #Obsidian alternative

@pallenberg
At this stage the concept sounds very "buzzwordy". Last time I heard the phrase digital assets was in the context of NFTs and we all know how that went.

That and the "welcome-to-crypto" repo on their GitHub, huge red flags 🚩🚩🚩

Nope, not touching that.

@hirnsushi it has nothing to do with NFTs, crypto or blockchain at all. You got a totally wrong impression

@pallenberg

- The mentioned repo literally starts with "Welcome to Crypto (by Anytype)" (github.com/anytypeio/welcome-t)

- The business model (according to vision.anytype.io/) sounds like a DAO/Ethereum:
"[…] if one wants to participate in a digital cooperative they must hold a stake in the cooperative - these could be digital certificates, or payment of special fees […]
The value generated by cooperative participants will be distributed among all contributors who make the system work."

@pallenberg

- And their manifest (anytype.io/en/manifesto) is full of crypto buzzwords:
"With Anytype we are building a software that will allow people to self-organise, protect their privacy and freedom of speech and own what they create - all without an intermediary.
[…]
We have a chance to end the nation state's monopoly on trust the same way as the printing press ended the church’s monopoly on truth."

@pallenberg

It might not contain crypto now, but I have a bad feeling about where this is headed, and I don't trust it.

That doesn't mean I wouldn't have a look at the code once it's available to see how useful it is on its own.

@hirnsushi well I had the chance to join an hour long session with them and their products. As soon as crypto and a blockchain is involved, I'm out. We share the same position here

@pallenberg @hirnsushi

There is as a FOSS alternative to Obsidian, Notion and Roam. It works with local Markdown files like Obsidian but you can build databases like in Notion (though it's not as advanced as Notion in this area).

@pallenberg @post

I've been using #Logseq for a few months now and really like it, great to quickly offload the brain.

They did however close a $4.1M seed round last year, with some crypto/web3 influence in the mix (blog.logseq.com/logseq-raises-). Let's hope rational minds prevail when the time comes to monetize it.

Otherwise it's getting forked 😏
