1/23 Why explore the #PartySwitch?
#WhiteSupremacists like to deny it happened. Some just don't know any better but, from those who do, this is a flag - are they hiding something?
All our threads in this discussion thus far (which I've saved on Medium pending a better way to do this, see https://medium.com/@DuaneAubin) have provided broader context towards enhancing clarity for so much of #AmericanHistory and the current state of affairs, and this topic is no different in that regard.

23/23 So, yeah, be it resolved, the #PartySwitch absolutely did happen and, like so much in #AmericanHistory and #politics, #WhiteSupremacy is all up in it.
Next week, exploring how the Irish became white will be eye-opening for many (and should be shorter, too!)
But, first (as always) —thoughts?
@duaneaubin Thanks for this. My middle-schooler was questioning me on this topic this week, and while I ranted a bit about Nixon and Lee Atwater, it's nice to have the full thread laid out like this. I've sent her the link to read.
@duaneaubin I have to admit, my explanation jumped from the Civil War all the way to Atwater, so your thread was nice to fill in that gap. The “southern strategy” is infuriating to me, I rarely pass up an opportunity to rant about it!
I'm impressed you could make that jump at all - you've clearly put in work to have familiarity like this.
Of course, there is still quite a bit I had to leave out, just as an attempt at brevity. Here's hoping what I did mention provides a real feel for our connectedness to our history, from the Civil War right down to this morning.
We are living within history, within the stories that led us to where we are today - "that's the past, move on" infuriates me!
