After the revolution, France got attacked by its religious neighbours because these neighbours all were monarchies. Since the revolution separated a lot nobility from their respective heads surrounding counties could not have this. They clung very much to their heads and did not want their subjects to catch up with the idea of revolution and republic. So they attacked. Primarily.
