@paco @rrb this is all true, but not without some downsides as well. Anyone wanting to host an instance in, use local hosting companies, or potentially using hosting or other services which do value the market could face legal risk. Not to mention pressures and risks to any prominent developers based in country.

@paco @rrb this obviously applies without any due process in many many other countries, which is also a problem, particularly for smaller/volunteer run nodes without globally versed legal counsel options. I’m still optimistic on mastodon, but we will see and hopefully work together on some … hard but not new problems.

@joncamfield @paco am curious about legal liability of mastodon servers for content from other mastodon servers exterior to, say, India. The info does not originate on their server. They let users access external toots. Not sure how liability should work, reasonably. Of course, in instances like this the main principle is power not law.
