I didn't realize how bad of a language English is until I started studying other languages. Take the numerical system for example. You can write any number ever with the characters 0-9, which is cool. But then with spoken English, at 10 we introduce the new number ten. Then eleven, then twelve. None of these numbers make any sense. Then randomly halfway through the 10s we switch to "teens" which is a mashup of part of the units column and "teen", meaning ten. It's an ok pattern, but we could have had oneteen, and twoteen. Then in the 20s we take the same pattern and for some unknown reason we reverse it. So now the unit part of the mashup is the multiple of 10s instead of the units, and we add the unit after (25, being twenty five). If you just explained the numbers out loud like 25 was two ten five, it would still be the same number of syllables, would actually make logical sense, and wouldn't require people to learn 20 different words just to count to 20. 😆
