Were those the "good guys with a gun" we keep hearing about?

I get reflexively anxious when a stranger unexpectedly approaches my door; I suspect that’s fairly common. But our collective fetishization of a gun as the first and last line of defense against people “invading” your “castle” can’t help but amplify both our worst fantasies and the consequences of indulging them. And here we are.

Add racism into the mix and it’s all too predictable.

@mattblaze On one trip, I had hosts from Mali. They came from a small isolated village. When strangers came, everyone would compete for the honor to have the strangers over for dinner.

Just considering the contrast.
