I spent to morning helping to clear the trail at our school for my kid's cross country team. The coach asked all families to show up and pitch in. Only a handful actually showed up.

I'm always kind of amazed and disappointed by the way so many people just disappear the moment they are asked to make a small effort to help the larger group.
