Okidoki, is there a magic place to put the verification snippet in a WP site, and/or any clue on how long it takes a mastodon instance to notice?

I put the code in the footer of one of my websites a couple hours ago, and no joy.

#Mastodon

@olavf Hmm. I put mine in the footer, Footer C I think. And it worked right away. It seemed that putting the Website link in my Mastodon profile triggered the server to go look.

If you're sure the link you put in WP is correct, you might change the Website link in your Mastodon settings to something else and then back again to tell the server to go look.

@shuttersparks I copypastaed directly and the mastodon link looks correct, and I can see it in the footer of the page. I also tried with and without www (and changed back) in the profile link. Odds bodkins.

@olavf Welp, I guess the next step is to DM the admin of your instance and ask. Sounds like you've done everything from your end.

I know nothing about Mastodon's code but I would guess it runs a task that checks verification links periodically, like once a week. But I'd expect a change to trigger an immediate or slightly delayed check.

I dunno.

@shuttersparks it's late enough to worry about it tomorrow at this point. Maybe I'll get lucky.

@olavf Hello. I took a look at your profile. I see the captions "I make art" and "I make food". Just for fun, I would change one of those to "Website" and see if your server hooks it up then.
