This is why the Twitter app is coming off my phone. This particular push notification doesn't seem offensive like some others, but *I do not follow this account* and likely never would. They're getting so desperate they're actively spamming me now.
It's probably because I don't interact there. FB has been pulling similar horseshit too lately, primarily recommending I follow complete randos

@cobalt side note: if you intended this to be private, the globe under the toot will have a "mentioned people only" or "direct" option (which means the same thing). I don't mind, just thought you'd like to be aware :)
@olavf oops! Soooo, is there a way to send DM here or does it vary by instance? I sent and received DM using the sidebar link and was told it was public. Oops
@cobalt @olavf When you compose a post, there are several things you can do to it like add a content warning, etc. You can also set "toot privacy". On my instance the icon is a little Earth. Here's there are five options for the visibility of the post. If you set it to Direct then only the people reference in the post can see it.
I'll post this one public. Then I'll reply again and set it to Direct. Then only you and Olav will be able to see it and you'll see how it looks.

Be aware that DMs here work well enough for informal stuff but don't provide real privacy. (Nor do DMs on Twitter). For anything serious, take it to Signal or similar platform.
Also be aware that if you're talking shit about somebody and include their Mastodon address in your comments, TA-DA, they'll be included in the conversation(!)
