I'm going to retweet a thread that shows, through application of casual logic, why the antivax movement is lying to you and there's no point in engaging them in good faith.
I just want to be clear however that I've already explained to you that these folks are fascists, that fascists lie for the purpose of accumulating support and power, and thus "Sartre quote about anti-Semites playing with language here."
But he traces the steps even if we DO NOT NEED TO cause "fascists lie for advantage."
This is ultimately why fact checking and debunking cannot stop a fascist creep or fascist propaganda in general.
It's very hard for folks to accept that the people around them do not believe the things they're saying, and are indeed actively lying to generate power - but this is more or less the entire history of fascism. They're playing to win; over your dead body. It's that simple. Doesn't matter if they're in your family, if you work together, if you had BBQ at the cottage together one time.
@EdSanders @AnarchoNinaWrites My grandmother was Estonian, educated in St. Petersburg, and lived through both WW1 and WW2 in Hamburg. She told me that most people didn't believe that Hitler meant what he said. "Oh, he's just rabble rousing."
I assume that nice people are especially unwilling to accept that someone can be that terrible. They've probably never known anyone like that.
