@GayDeceiver In my dreams! But it could happen.
I would add to the U.S. Criminal Code: any politician or public official caught lying to the public in an official capacity. (Penalty to be determined.)
@mraharrison @GayDeceiver Well, true. I guess I can dream. Haha.
@shuttersparks @GayDeceiver Oh sure, on both sides of the pond we need tougher rules about who gets to be a representative and on conduct in office, eg your insurrection supporters and our drunken Covid lockdown revellers should be history but here we are.
@mraharrison @GayDeceiver Yes, well, in the U.S. anyone with a heartbeat can be elected to almost any office and that seems wrong to me given the potentially great responsibilities of public office.
After Trump was out of office I saw an interview where he was asked what surprised him when he became president. He said he was surprised that he was expected to actually lead, that people looked up to him and expected leadership. Before that he thought the president was mainly a figurehead and that the government ran itself.
Or creating deep fakes.
Meanwhile, I'll be happy if we simply prosecuted public officials for felonies already in the US CC.
@shuttersparks @GayDeceiver Counterpoint. You can't criminalise lying because it brings the lawyers into parliament/Congress. Lying is notoriously difficult to prove but a good lawyer could oust a naive politician for the slightest mistake: a promise that went unfulfilled, or an unintended interpretation that can be seen to be false. We'd need a "Ministry of Truth" and you know where that leads...
