@Teri_Kanefield The way private companies have been breaking brains and manipulating the public for profit over the last few years, it is stunning - but definitely not surprising. See it in your Facebook group or on YouTube while at work, catch it on a podcast on the drive home, watch it repeated all night on Fox News Prime Time, and then have it all reinforced the by national politicians and celebrities - why wouldn't they believe it?
@dcdeejay @Teri_Kanefield You make a good point that's easily overlooked by savvy people. My fellow Boomers, who didn't grow up in Hollywood like I did, but grew up in rural America, grew up at a time when television news basically never lied. They couldn't just make stuff up because the FCC would yank their broadcast license.
Today, it's all cable and there's nothing to stop Fox Entertainment from putting on their parody and entertainment show called Fox News. But the rubes here in West Virginia don't know that. They watch Fox and think it's Walter Cronkite telling them how it is. Of course they believe what they see and hear on TV. Fox has automatic credibility with my generation simply because they're an official news outlet in their eyes.
@MaggyWells @dcdeejay @Teri_Kanefield Indeed, there are plenty, such as myself. But many, if not most, didn't grow up with a healthy suspicion of authority and information sources.
