Here's my technical goals for 2024: Easy peasy?
- Integrate principles from biology and evolution into network design so that networks are more resistant to imperfections (and attacks) and even somewhat homeostatic (self healing.)
- Create a database of network pathology so that we can reason backwards from symptoms towards possible causes, using tests to distinguish among those possible causes.
- Integrate ideas and techniques from astrophysics into computer networks so that we can better induce information about indirectly observable behavior.
- Develop network pheromones to support resource discovery.
- Revive punched paper tape as the medium of choice for data transfer.
@karlauerbach Hah! Nice list. I thought #1 was already done back in 1970 but then they screwed it all up with backbones and so-forth.
I'm definitely on board with the paper tape plan. I like being able to easily see and feel my bits. 👀
