When politicians describe the advisory in a war as "the forces of evil" I have a hard time taking them seriously.

It just makes it seem like all they understand is that the country or group is doing things they don't like and have have no idea why they are making those choices, however destructive, or horrifying they might be.

But politicians regularly revert to this nursery school language, so the way I see it must not be typical.

Sometimes I think the "forces of evil" language is used to help keep US audiences who don't pay much attention to international politics clear as to what side they are supposed to "root" for.

But... the only "rooting" that should go on during any war is rooting for the war to end and for peace. How the heck is that controversial.

@futurebird

Peace is more than ending war. It is ending injustice.

Imposing "peace" on Ukraine, for example, means allowing Russia to keep part of the country and to continue to abuse the people living there.

@TruthSandwich @futurebird Exactly. No. The Russians must not only depart from all of Ukraine but pay damages. To get them to the point where they agree, we must continue to bleed out their economy.

@shuttersparks @TruthSandwich

I don't think we've done enough to support the Ukraine from defending themselves from invasion. The economics is the bare minimum.

But then invasions are tolerated when the power deferential is great enough.

Sometimes the modern era feels like a mirage.

@futurebird @TruthSandwich Yes, we need to do more.

One good thing is part of the process is demoralization. Western weapons are doing that. When they launch 100 missiles and two make it through, it looks really bad. When they launch a highly touted unstoppable hypersonic missile and it's shot down by a Patriot, it looks really bad. And the Patriot system shares data with all other batteries and learns as it goes. The more you use it, the better it gets.
