@cjd @smokescreen there's likely some truth to that article.
Quite often, I don't know why, but humans seek simplicity, where perhaps, it's not so simple, or black/white.
It is likely, that a "web" of intricacies did build, and produced an outcome, where several entities benefited, at the cost of millions of lives.
I am not saying to discard the British (or any) monarchy as likely sponsor.
Reminds me of this recent movie, The King’s Man, appearances can be deceptive.
@cjd @mukona @smokescreen R.e. Hitler, there's a good book about Anglo bankers both sides of the pond conspiring to ensure WW2 took place - Wall Street and International Politics, or a similar title, by Rothbard
the book makes it out more to be competing banking interests than anything else though, fairly compelling and a short read
I've always struggled to buy the idea that anyone invested in the UK - in an emotional, sovereign sense - actively encouraged Hitler. it would only have made sense to an international banker/fixer.
Battle of Britain was pretty damn hairy, and Churchill had been banging the drum to build up air forces long before Hitler really was up for another war. Without Churchill we probably would have capitulated and even the Anglo bankers would have lost out to German-American bankers who were invested in the other side.
As for Hitler... this guy was beyond money markets I think, many people tried to control him and they got flattened by Tuetonic zeal. The Nazi party seems too idiosyncratic to have been anything other than Hitler's brainchild.
I think life will always be far messier and weirder than any conspiracy theory can make out, but they make things easier to digest, particularly in the present when you don't even have the comfort of knowing how things turn out
probably something to reflect on there, myself included
@cjd @mukona @smokescreen funded Hitler, the Nazi Party, or the German Reich post WW2? and were they the same parties sending the funds?
@cjd @mukona @smokescreen yeah this was done mainly through American loans, way before Hitler was a glimmer
the idea was that you would keep Britain and France armed and build up Germany economically with minimal army and the allies would always stop Germany if it locked off before it felt like it's grievances were overcome in a peaceful manner
The great depression came out of Anglo banker tombuggery, though, if Rothbard is to be believed. Alongside that were democratic nations genuinely against re armament which once can understand, but it came to the point of madness when it became clear that Hitler was off the chain and building on what the German Reichwehr had been stealthily building up...
reading Churchill's memoirs at the moment and he's certainly a biased source, but in combination with Rothbard's book I'd say there's so much human frailty, foolishness and chaos on every side that it beggars belief anyone other than Lizard Aliens from the United Kingdom (the Egyptian one) could have kept their eye on the ball through all of that
