So I finally ordered the Samsung S23+ from TGY, and intend to flush a BRI firmware on it.
The reason is my existing Xiaomi was bricked by my own app (kind of, but I don't think it's my fault).
Yesterday I was thinking of deploying my newly written Android app to my current using phone. I think it's good enough to use. However, I use Google's barcode scanning feature, where you just invoke a Google Play module without asking for camera permission.
However, my Google Play Service seems too old to use that feature, so I need to upgrade it first. I tried the update button but it failed silently. I thought it might be a network issue since sometimes Google Play doesn't play well with VPN. So I decided to spam the update button, and suddenly it starts loading. I thought it was good to go.
Then I went back to my app, invoked the GMS feature again, and then the whole system is frozen. I thought a reboot would fix it. So I powered off my phone, and then powered on again. And I stuck at the MIUI logo and never booted to the unlock screen.
I tried to save my data, but failed. I have to wipe all data, and flash the rom in fastboot, multiple times. I don't know why, but it still stuck at the MIUI logo when I wiped all data 4 times. Then it finally booted, and my data are all gone.
Based on the information I have, I'm using the MIUI EU edition, where someone unofficially zips the China ROM and Google stuff together, and removed some useless Xiaomi stuff. I also rooted my phone and installed a lot of magisk modules. I don't know what part is wrong, but looks like the Google play service failed to update itself and bricked the system. And I wiped my phone multiple times, I don't have any log or clue to guess what happened.
I got enough issues with those Chinese firmwares. I decide to go native Google now. No root, no patches, just Google and work profiles to isolate Chinese apps.
