Google is laying off hundreds of people working on Google Assistant as it reworks the product to be built on LLMs.
This is sadly consistent with my recurring theme that Siri, Alexa, etc should delete their existing code and replace them with LLMs.
Both Amazon & Google have now announced layoffs in their digital assistant teams for the same reason. Generative AI is eliminating jobs in tech as it clearly obsoletes previous approaches. Digital assistants won’t be the last.
