It's so weird to me to be in a "nice" neighborhood
A neighbor saw, via their doorbell, someone trying to open their door, so they called the police, who investigated and eventually determined that it was a handyman who had the wrong house. Another time, when someone "suspicious" was reported (looking into windows). so the police knocked on doors to warn people and patrolled to find the person
When I was in NYC, a friend of mine called in someone being actively beaten and the police didn't show
and I would semi-regularly see fights on the street in NYC (late at night), which the police didn't do much about.
Here, another time, a neighbor had a noise complaint (not about me) and, maybe 15 minutes after calling it in, the police showed up and asked the noisy party to keep it down.
Meanwhile, in another place I lived, I saw a live break-in, took photos of it, called the police and they... knocked on the door, got no answer (because, would you answer if you'd broken in?), and then left.
@tedherman @danluu Do you ever worry about the handbrake getting stuck in the applied position (e.g. in winter)?
@robryk No, and in my experience, even at around -25F (-32C) the handbrake hasn't got stuck.
@tedherman @danluu I learned this trick on steep hills in Turkey so yes.
