I wish there was a way to block people from federating replies to my posts, without stopping them following me or seeing my posts. That way I could still feed my progressive reckons into the darker corners of the 'verse, without the risk of exposing the unwary reader to toxic replies from those corners.

Something less than public, say Source Instance Only?

My grasp of the idea here is that the goal is still that OP toot will move throughout the fediverse, but that replies wouldn't be treated as first order toots themselves. They might post to the local timeline of the author, and flow back to OP notif, but those replies wouldn't be shared to any other servers than those two.

So source-and-reply instance-only. Might think of as a semi-public DM, in that is direct between only the two instances & no others.

@TiberiusReigns @strypey Essentially, this might be understood to extend the concept of consent to replies in a way similar to how a Creative Commons NoDerivs license extends consent to copy a work but not to modify it.

In a threading context, a reply modifies the work of the original author. Marginalia that forever transforms the text into something else.

No idea. Got any links to documentation of @mike's implementation of this?

@tetrislife @strypey @mike @TiberiusReigns @jupiter_rowland Yeah, I spent a good twenty minutes looking at the various pages that come up for Hubzilla, and didn't find anything specific about control of reply distribution in threads.

Indeed, beyond brochureware statements to the effect that those tools allow for social networking, was at a loss as to where to find specific social networking use cases.

Not about to try undirected search for generic words like "zap" and "streams".

@beadsland @strypey let me try it from Hubzilla. I have seen replies in a thread not visible until logging in via magic auth, and maybe even replies without like buttons.

User-facing documentation for Zot projects is consistently lacking, as is decent UI design. Which is a shame because there are some really pioneering ideas being tried out in Zot and the apps implementing it. With a bit more attention to UX, maybe more people would try them out.

@strypey @tetrislife @mike @TiberiusReigns @jupiter_rowland Or, you know, maybe even just a blog or two talking about why this cool project is so very cool, because of all the cool things you can do with it that you can't do with those other more popular but far less cool projects.

But no, it's just lotsa landing pages with one-sixth of the screen taken up with a stylized icon and the words "Social Media", as if that says anything about what sets this project apart from others.
