#RakuLang folks:

Some thoughts to ponder as many of you are about to have some days off.

1.You use the Fediverse, and like Raku, but there is no usable #ActivityPub library for Raku.

2. Mastodon, as a technology is kinda doomed. Sidekiq is terrible for scaling up, and Mastodon requires way to many resources. It's the wrong tool for the job. Elixir (Pleroma & descendents) is a great tech stack for this problem. I _think_ Raku might also be a great tool for the job....

It's just a matter of time before people start looking for alternative tools to Mastodon to host their ActivityPub groups / content.

Wouldn't it be cool if we were already there, ready and waiting, when they come looking?

And not just big server stuff. There are some amazing things that can be done with single user instances. Not just in terms of highly opinionated interface, but also incredible protection tools for people who get lots of online abuse.

@masukomi do you mean something like epicyon.net ? Also, PubSub must also be adjacent to AP, I guess.

@tetrislife intriguing. For a personal one sure. Another nice starting point for a personal one is #ktistec which Is taking a more traditional approach.

However. There’s a hidden gotcha with single use instances. They’re fine for small folks but also the best thing for hugely popular/ unpopular folks. So a good one needs to be able to handle a user with 1m followers (eventually).

You need to have a great queuing and parallelization story like elixir does.

@masukomi I am all for Erlang-based systems for reliability and comprehensibility. But I don't see the need to scale to 1M followers.
