so how exactly do you go about setting up a #selfhosted #server? where do you buy the server? what do you buy? how do you install the OS on it? would love to set up a #jellyfin server but not sure where to start. i would rather have a dedicated server than use my PC as the server but idk what to get.
@rice I strongly encourage something like an Intel NUC or Dell/HP USFF machine. Small, compact, pretty powerful, but affordable, efficient, and relatively cheap to get used.

@ocdtrekkie @rice somewhat like a NUC is Latte Panda, an Intel SBC. I haven't used it, so one would have to check up on the specs (e.g. it has soldered RAM, unlike PCs).
@tetrislife @rice I wouldn't recommend an SBC: You usually need to provide your own power supply, they often use poor storage like SD cards, and you'll probably want a case anyways. And SBCs you generally have to buy new, whereas you can get NUCs and USFFs used very cheaply.
