One advantage microblogging has as a medium over chat rooms or forums, is that a discussion can fork off in a range of directions without cluttering up a single, linear channel. Tangential posts can sprout off busy conversations of their own, on different topics, while the original discussion can continue unaffected. That's because clicking on a post allows us to see the posts that led up to it without necessarily seeing every thread that's branched off from it.
