"‘Kōkirihia – The plan for removing streaming from our schools’ gathers research and evidence about the effects of streaming on students.

The research evidence is unequivocal that fixed ability grouping in any form does not work for the vast majority... Here in Aotearoa, those most detrimentally affected are Māori and Pacific, as they are more likely to be incorrectly placed in lower ability groups and streams than Pākehā and Asian students."

@strypey ignoramus question: how different is streaming from K-12 ? And, is the Montessori method an option; apparently it is workable even upto midfle school.

@tetrislife
I'm not USAmerican but my understanding is that K-12 is just separating classes by age. Streaming is separating students of the same age by (perceived) academic ability. I'm a fan of discovery learning systems like Montessori and Steiner, at all age and ability levels, but they're not for everyone.

whoa, that is adjacent to profiling. I guess they could just promote kids to the next class at individual times instead, based on actual learning outcome, but teachers would have more to do then.
