What's with people calling this place "the fediverse" so much? It seems kinda culty to me (gives me same vibes as the metaverse). What's wrong with just saying "I'm on Mastodon"?

@conradludgate Because not everybody is on Mastodon. The Fediverse consists of many servers, and also many software. There is Misskey, Pleroma, Friendica, and more other software that can connect to the Fediverse.
