Just spent 20 minutes with my 9 y.o. trying to explain to him how important it is to say sorry to yourself and admit that a poor choice was made.

He has a tendency to blame everyone else and refuse to back down even when you (and he) knows he is wrong.
We started small, based around a decision he made in a board game ( ). Instead of blaming another player and trying to invent a rule loophole, he just needed to say to himself, "I did not read that card properly, and I wasted it." Following up with saying to everyone else, "Whoops. I guess I misread that card!" Instead he got angry, blamed us both and rage quit the game. Sad times.

I reminded him how important it is to forgive yourself. No one is going to tease you for admitting you made a mistake. No one is going to be upset if you only realise you made a mistake *after* you lost your temper, but then apologise and admit you made a mistake.

Something he can work on, anyway.

@jellycrystals Outch, always a tough one. Hope he'll learn that soon enough.

@trinsec He is getting a lot better. TBH, I have seen worse tantrums in adults when they realise they made a mistake...

@jellycrystals Probably because they didn't have someone like you in their youth. Keep up the good work! 😊
