@Jayslacks you might have a different opinion if you were personally being negatively impacted by actions of his administration.

I wish he was boring. Instead I've been facing years now of having him throwing workplaces into disarray, threatening people's jobs, calling to question future funding, and generally just sticking his nose into things and mucking them up.

And that's not even getting into the rather not boring state of conflicts around the world.

Oh I wish Biden was boring. Sadly he's not.

@accretionist what of him?

We should call out Biden for his screw ups on his own sake. He's really screwing stuff up. And we should hold him accountable for that and not let him scapegoat or distract or anything else.

Biden is screwing up, and that has nothing to do with Trump.

I will say, though, not that it matters, but Trump seemed so incompetent that he was unable to screw things up even if he wanted to. Again, not that it matters.

It has been actions of the Biden administration that have really reached into our workplaces and screwed things up, and he really needs to be held accountable for that. I've never seen it this bad before.

@Jayslacks

@accretionist based on what I've seen of governmental mismanagement from the inside, not Biden.

I've never seen it as bad as under his administration.

So who knows? There's a good chance I'll just write myself in.

I'll vote if nothing else just to register my protest.

@Jayslacks

@volkris

A so you'll get Trump. You know how voting works, you can't profess to not understand that.

And so I believe you're MAGA agent provocateur or Russian troll farm. It's not possible to not understand the real world effect of what you write. It's only possible to understand your words as a purposeful manipulation.

@accretionist wow, That's quite a leap you are making, quite a lot of assumptions!

Just because I have personally seen how much worse things have gotten under Biden doesn't mean I have any love for Trump. In fact, I am seriously seriously hoping the Republicans come to their senses and nominate someone different through the remaining primaries.

Same with Democrats. I really hope they come to their senses and choose a different candidate. It was a good chance I would vote for that person.

Biden has been a disaster for science in the US, which I have experienced firsthand. So I will not vote for him.

I really really hope both parties dump those two, and I have a little hope for that because whichever party nominates someone different will probably win.

@volkris "Just because I have personally seen how much worse things have gotten under Biden"

yeah i stopped reading here. it's not possible to say this in comparison to trump for anyone sane

you're cosplaying. you're MAGA

this is you (at least you don't have to worry about swapping your account, right trump supporter?):

@accretionist I can repeat it if you missed it, but I am completely frustrated that Republicans have not yet wisened up and sent Trump back to the sewer from which he came.

And same with Democrats. I wish that either party would decide they would rather win the election by a landslide by choosing almost any candidate who is not named Trump or Biden.

If you're interested in more detail, while I say that my experience under Biden has been the worst I've seen from any president, I assume that's just because Trump was too damn and confident and stupid to actually figure out what phone to talk in to to do his own damage.

Undo Biden the administration has been micromanaging science in the US in very kind expensive and counterproductive ways.

I'm sure Trump would love to do the same, but he's just too damn stupid to know how to do that.

@accretionist isn't social media fun?

Such a platform for broadening the mind and informing each other so that we can speak truth to power and help shape the future.

Or, the other thing, proudly celebrate closed mindedness.

Yeah probably the other thing, huh?

If you really don't care about how badly the federal government is conducting itself, if you are so uninterested in holding powerful people accountable, well that seems like a real missed opportunity to me.

But I guess, just another day in social media.

@volkris

ah yes, "open your mind to russian troll farm. give into lies and cynical narratives"

are you describing your victimhood to that or do you think you're still working an angle here?

@accretionist I'm describing the experience of working in the US government these days.

Thanks for asking for clarification, though.

Yes, it is really a frustrating time to be involved in the research community, as science is being hampered by orders coming out of this administration.

@volkris

don't they teach you when to cut bait at russian troll farm?

i mean it's fascinating to watch, now your posturing and hand waving a topic change

are you attempting a credibility recovery for some reason? why? you've already been called out on your bs, friend

you're transparent

Follow

@accretionist

Again, welcome to social media!

Where you can believe anything you want, and if you don't care you don't care, and that's perfectly acceptable around here.

But maybe other people do.

And heck, maybe other people will consider that you're the Russian plant trying to move attention away from these serious problems.

But who cares? It's just social media.

And enormous amounts of wasted money out of the US Treasury, but never mind that.

@volkris yes, welcome to the troll show that is social media

tonight's performance continues! enjoy the endless posturing

@accretionist

But to be serious, anyone who's actually interested in the state of science in the US can compare budgets against research output and program requirements to see that in the last couple of years those expected performance metrics have been missed more and more due to orders coming down the pipeline from the Biden administration.

I know I was in a meeting just last week going over astoundingly poor numbers from the past couple of years.

Anyone who's interested in this should really be pulling up those numbers from federal agencies and even filing FOIA requests to see the internal arguments about it, because it has been a major thing that's been coming up that hasn't been getting as much attention as it deserves.

And again, I'm not saying it's anything intentional. As far as I can tell it's just micromanaging by people who don't know what they're doing, but it is seriously impacting scientific efforts throughout the country, and even the world.

@volkris dude you have to realize something

"Just because I have personally seen how much worse things have gotten under Biden"

respect drops to zero. everything you've said after that i've tuned out. so why are you still prattling on?

@accretionist two reasons.

Firstly, because this is a public forum, and even if you don't care about dysfunction in the US government, others do.

And secondly, because it's social media. Prattling on is what we do here. Welcome to the party.

@volkris yes, and by the very same token, i can note how you're hijacking the topic

you can go to the alcoholics anonymous meeting and hawk vitamins in your multi-level marketing scheme

and they in turn can kick you out of the meeting

aka: bye!

@accretionist hijacking the topic?

@Jayslacks wrote about his feeling that Biden was boring, so I chimed in that I wish that was the case, as his tenure has been pretty disruptive.

And that lack of boringness is something too few people are aware of, though it should be pretty significant to their voting decision.

And then you pivoted to Trump, in a very hijacky way, before starting up with namecalling and all this other nonsense.

I'm happy to chat on topic as I think there are important things to discuss there.
