this is getting way bigger than I expected, and I don't even know for sure what it is. Just that it's a vine
@zleap It's not a bean, but the only thing I know for sure is what the seeds look like, which is ... not quite enough to look it up lol. I will have to wait and see what the leaf is like at least

@piggo yeah., do you have a photo of the seed.

Now that is an idea, some sort of AI thing that can look at a seed and help to id it.

I can't program that, but you read it here first folks.

@zleap @ic3l9 here's a shell from the seed. It's definitely not a bean or pumpkin, it's a vine that grows in the wild, likes being near water. The fruits are I think a little like cucumber but like, meshy. You normally find a weird dried remainder of the fruit with these seeds in it, that's what I remember of it anyway
@piggo @zleap interesting

they're all kinda related so it makes sense that the seedlings also look similar
@ic3l9 @zleap i really hope it grows and bears fruit because 1. i want to propagate it, and 2. im curious what i'm actually growing xD

@piggo

Once it grows first proper leaves (beyond the first two), try this: identify.plantnet.org/

It's actually quite good (that AI which can recognise plants and seeds).

@zleap @ic3l9

@piggo

I tried to query crops of your images, but it does not know yet. In my experience the app is quite bad on seedlings (they look too alike), that's why you need a proper leaf for identification. Or a better picture of the fruit.

@zleap @ic3l9

@FailForward @piggo @ic3l9
Can you contact them, they may be able to use data and pictures you provide to improve the app ?

@zleap

I recall that the app works a bit like a social network too. You can submit a query and ask the community for help. I never did it, but I know a botanist who recommended it to me for this purpose, so I guess it's useful.

@piggo @ic3l9

@FailForward @zleap @ic3l9 there is one like that for mushrooms too, it kiind of works but I wouldn't rely on it when checking of something is edible
Follow

@piggo @FailForward @ic3l9 I think in france you can take a mushroom in to a chemist / pharmacist and they will let you know if it is edible or not

or that used to be the case.
