A small business on facebook may use that to keep i touch ith their customers if they move first then customers will also move
As part of this we need to ry and get more businesses to move here. But we need to follow the and they kinda need to generate income from their new followers not just existing followers.
It has to make business sense esp for small / sole traders
@zleap @openrisk @aral @metagrrrl imagine creating a great new club for people to socialize and make neighborly plans with each other, and then someone is like "you know what would make this club better? If it had a Starbucks, Target, and Bath & Body Works attached to it. Yeah, so less like a social club and more like a mall."
@wilbr @openrisk@mastodon.green @aral @metagrrrl
Yeah good point. I guess you can't have a small sole trader without having the big multi national companies here too.
Even though the eco system isn't really going to work for the latter as much.
@zleap @openrisk @aral @metagrrrl I don't even know why the word "trader" has entered the chat, maybe my dialect is different from others'.
@wilbr @openrisk@mastodon.green @aral @metagrrrl
Well a trader could be a sole person who is selling a few products, @thor has a website.
We can't compete with the big players on faceobok as easily due to algorithms, but we can promote what we are doing here.

I guess free software projects are different as their aim is to make good software rather than huge profits from donations, and while they do have paid staff, well dome do, they don't make huge amounts of money.
@zleap @openrisk @aral @metagrrrl I have no desire to have capitalism join and take over internet things yet again. It's the poison that led from Usenet to AOL Keywords and Chat (which of those two survived long-term?) and it's the poison that has FB chasing the money instead of doing what's right. People can and will chase money in a FOSS ecosystem, I see no reason to invite it.
