Indeeed, it seems to end up back at education. If we teach people proper research skills they can look things up and make up their own minds by looking at both sides of an argument, look a the evidence and draw conclusions. BUT also debate with others.
We need a balance between personal truth and having a way to trust domain experts.
This is a good essay on the downsides to media literacy.
Critically interrogating media is a technique and can be deployed in many ways.
