Well the more instances the better in that sense, we are in control of our own destiny that way.
@zleap @mcduquesne @write_as @writefreely if “free software” is one political movement of the software industry, then “decentralise” is another.

Power to the people, or perhaps Power to the users.
@thor @writefreely @mcduquesne @write_as
Facebook has something like 4 billion users, not sure how many of those are dogs, cats, other animals etc.
@thor @write_as @writefreely @zleap
The high church of decentralization is cool as far as monkish orders go, at least coding all night is more interesting than copying ancient manuscripts all day.
@thor @writefreely @mcduquesne @write_as
I think the idea that people can set up their own instance for self or a few friends, also is the strength. The fact we have the option to join others, providing we follow those rules is also a strength.,
Either way big tech is a target for people wanting to steal data due to the huge amount of data collected. I am not saying we are less vulnerable as that would be seen as complacent.
@thor
Not religious. If fedi is the best protocol for social platforming, and it remains decentralised, thats just a great thing to be a part of and the more people that realise the benefits of freedomSoftware the better and healthier society will be as a whole.
Its no more religious than people protecting local trees because they know it clean the air for them and helps keep them cool.

One reason I like it here because the fedi sees me as a user, and not just a pawn to generate income from data and clicks.
@zleap @writefreely @mcduquesne @write_as “he more instances the better” this is a religious mantra. not saying it’s wrong. but it’s this thing everyone keeps saying and i’ve noticed that. it’s a goal, not a matter of fact. there’s an agenda to fedi.
