A dichotomy of user-hostile software:

- Mainstream software: user-hostile because it has a dozen popups trying to upsell you / accept cookies / grant permission to sell your data
- OSS software: user-hostile because it expects you to know how to use GPG to sign a certificate on the command line, and fuck you if you don't know what any of those words mean

@nolan Agreed on this as with GPG there has to be a user friendly way to do this that does not expect the user or assume the user is able to do this or is a IT specialist,

@icedquinn @nolan IIRC UX is user experience surely the Command line is still a User interface therefore people should not be making assumptions.

don't interactive shell scripts exist for a reason along with environment variables to store a path

@zleap
Yes Nolan and Paul,

Very well identified.

We believe its called #GpgMadeEasy (or #GPGME), which is a plugin for applications that are designed to boost the #userExperience, for software designed to use it.

A person on #I2P (they serve an #eepsite) has developed a more user friendly system for standard #GPG operations. Their software is available at multiple location and is hosted at the #internetArchive also.

If you search available eepsites you'll find it quickly.

@icedquinn @nolan

@icedquinn @zleap @nolan Terminal stuff still can have UX design, if there is users, there is an experience.

And a lot of GNU programs can be taken as horrible UX when compared to their equivalents.

Like wget, you want to save to a specific filename, that's -o right? Nope, that's for doing a log… GNU please, that's easily done with shell redirection…

And I'm not going to address GnuPG, the whole thing is ass backwards.
@zleap @nolan I know how to type gpg --recv-keys HEX when a package fails validating, that's about the extent I'm willing to go into. It's enough to get things working

@piggo @nolan I think you are about the same level as me, i can sort of gpg verify iso images
