I am not sure, but to me the current problem of migrants coming across in small boats, across the busiest shipping lane in the world (English channel) should be more about human welfare.

The people smugglers are making huge amounts of money (probably tax free) to give people a small boat and set them off from France, They have their money so they don't care if that small dinghy gets hit by a shipping container, and everyone is killed.

Undocumented migration also means these people are at risk of exploitation work, sexual exploitation, they are not here, are told the police will throw then in jail so they are at the mercy of low paid, dangerous work, with no rights or even modern day slavery.

The UK is short on
Drivers HGV
Warehouse workers
Doctors
Nurses
other lower and higer skilled jobs

We NEED immigration, so make it easier get them here, get them work ready (e,g background checks for some jobs) or certified to work here, then get them out there to fill the jobs.

In the meantime, target people smugglers so we send a clear message sending ;people via dangerous / deadly means won't be tolerated and making thousands won't do YOU as a smuggler any good in PRISON.
