We released v1.2 of the Octopus, an alternate OpenPGP backend for Thunderbird. The primary motivation for this release is to track changes to how Thunderbird uses rnp. Thanks to our users for quickly reporting these changes to us! This release also relicenses the Octopus from the GPL to the LGPL. sequoia-pgp.org/blog/2021/12/1 #pgp

@nwalfield All we need to do now is remember the name Octopus and it has something to do with OpenPGP

@zleap
Now that Sequoia is LGPL licensed, I hope/wish, Thunderbird will switch to it.
@nwalfield

@kirschwipfel I doubt that will happen. In several conversations that I had with Thunderbird developers, I was told that even if we changed Sequoia's license to be compatible with TB, it is too late: integrating a new library would take work that they don't have time for, and introduce new integration bugs, that they've already worked through for rnp.
