Please don't ask me to do tech support.

I don't work for Mastodon. This isn't my job. I'm not going to spend my time helping you if I don't get paid.

Don't even offer to pay me—you can't afford me.

By the way, that last post deserves context. I'm getting a lot of random people asking me for tech support.

I don't know why they're coming to me.

But it's incredibly rude to be demanding tech support—especially if you don't know me.

This is also a reminder that free and open source software doesn't mean "free help".

In fact, it means the opposite.

Free and open source software is free of warranties and you use it at your own risk.

@atomicpoet There used to be a saying back in the 90s

Use the Force, Read the source

For the most part the community helpful to those who have at least tried to demonstrate they have tried to solve the issue first.

e.g I have problem with software program x version y
I am using OS e.g Debian 11 + latest updates
I have searched for the issue but am not sure if this is the best solution for what I want to do

paste info here

that way it shows you have tried to look things up but just need a little clarity for example.
