If Trump is spared prison it will set the presidence, that anyone can take documents home, for what ever reason, then refuse or not cooperate when it comes to handing back. Granted Joe Biden has admitted doing so and handed them back.
If nothing else, what does NEED to happen is checks / balances need to be put in place so the same thing can't happen again or documents can be removed but there has to be a system in place to ensure that those in charge of the documents need to know what (is being taken), why (it is being taken) who (will have access, where the documents are being stored, and HOW long for.
