None of the world’s top industries would be profitable if they paid for the natural capital they use grist.org/business-technology/
A sobering new study finds that the world's biggest industries burn through $7.3 trillion worth of free natural capital a year. And it's the only reason they turn a profit

Our current economy (and I've could argue capitalism in general) relies on extraction and exploitation to profit. It's unsustainable, by design.

We've been borrowing--or if we were being more honest, stealing--from the powerless, particularly future generations, and the bill is starting to come due.

This is quite possibly why some of the richest men in the world have their sights set on industrial expansion into space colonising other planets.

While the average billionaire may be good at their specific job, if they all head off to colonise mars, do they actually posess the skills to do so?

Without the workers who actally run and develop stuff, their creations would not exist, it takes more than 1 person to run the fediverse, even though the idea was probably concieved by a single person (who granted is involved in current deveopments) I get the impression Musk is only really good at making poor irrational decisions and never taking responsibility for them.

So a message to billionaires, feel free to build your rocket, and blast off to Mars, it is not yours to colonise, just ask the decendents of empire and the resulting slave trades and other damage done. You still need a whole army of people to live and work there.
