You're last point is excellent, I think it was Seth Godwin, who was in a video I watched years ago. He suggested we should teach kids as young as 9 how to say use a Arduino during that academic year, the year after they should be set the challenge of solving a problem with what they have learned (it may have been 9th / 10 graders not sure). But this sounds like a good idea, you have far more motivation to learn IF you see the point and context.
