Is this any difference to the fact zoom got so popular it got free publicity, endless mentions on the news (e.g bbc) during the pandemic. The same is happening with threads, because it is linked to Meta / Instagram, then it gets mentioned again and again, even negative stories get a mention. Meanwhile the Fediverse hardly ever gets a mention.
