With regard to carbon capture, does this actually solve the wide issue of greenhouse emissions. I was under the impression that CO_2 is the MAIN greenhouse gas, however there are other gasses that contribute to the greenhouse effect.

So by removing CO_2 we solve part of the issue, only for cars, that are pumping out CO_2 they are also pumping out other gasses such as Oxides of Nitrogren and Sulful as well as carciogens such as Benzine, as well as particulates that are also dangerous to human health.

So how much does carbon capture actually solve the problem, when we just need to reduce these emissions, and plant more trees.

Or am i missing some important point here. ?

,,,,,.

@zleap if we are to stop what is coming, carbon capture is part of the solution as we don't just need to stop polluting but have to reverse the damage we done.

You are correct that more than just CO2 is an issue and it does also need to be addressed to clean things up.

Will any of it change our future if we continue doing the damage? Nope.

Would stopping pollution and planting trees fix everything? Nope.

But it would make it possible for our other efforts to make a difference to our future.

@tomcrinstam

Thanks for this, so it is just part of a wider solution. Which our idiot PM has decided to just ride over with a steamroller and allow more oil and gas.

I will ask about question in a new post.

@zleap

1. Carbon Capture is an incredibly expensive option. It cheaper to not emit in the first place, and as such is a small part of what we need to do. The IPCC has a chart:
ipcc.ch/report/ar6/wg3/figures

2. Even if we could pay for it, carbon capture likely won't scale up to anything near the size of current emissions. So we need to do a lot of other things too.

3. As you mentioned, it's not the only greenhouse gas:
ipcc.ch/report/ar6/wg1/figures

4. We still need it, to deal with overshoot

@zleap that said, the fossil fuels industry has a lot of PR around carbon capture because they see its potential existence as a means of maintaining social license to keep on extracting and burning. So there's lot of hype around it and money for small-scale projects to tout.
