To get on a board of govenors in the Uk or any job in a school there is a formal application process, application, refrences and background checks.
Do US schools not have processes in place to safeguard school communities. ?
I forgot that the board of governors consists of 13 trustees for each public University. Only six are governor appointed.

Ah right, I guess things are different in the US, as I said over here people who want to be involved with the school are subject to background checks.
I don't know much about UK law, but we have many laws in the States that make it really easy to backslide into autocracy.
@AnotherDayInHell @knittingknots2
Lets just hope that does not happen.

Each state's laws will be different. In Florida the Governor appoints 6 citizen trustees to the board for each state University. Those trustees have to be confirmed by the Florida Senate. Right now, Florida has a Republican supermajority and they are a rubber stamp for DeSantis's agenda. Governor DeSantis want to turn New College into a school similar to Hillsdale College. That school leans very heavily conservative. It also is a private college that isn't subject to state funding or education standards.
