This piece by @mathewi about Facebook's news ban in response to Canada's law, which would force the company to pay publishers for distributing news links, is nuanced and considers a few different perspectives.

Maybe the law could be modified to exclude situations such as natural disasters, when every means of communication needs to stay open and available, and yes even facebook which is seen as evil by many.
Of course laws should NOT need to be changed if people could apply a little common sense to the situation. Facebook reports updates, and media companies allow this by not sending them a bill and ensuring they supply accurate updates too.
